What do you do with leftover Pita bread?  I freeze them or turn them into crunchy munchy snack like these below .

Pita chips are a great alternative to the regular nachos . They are perfect to munch on with a dip of your choice as well as make a great vegan appetizer to entertain your guests. They are a great healthier choice as compared to other chips.

What I love about this recipe is that these pita chips are baked and not fried. You may use homemade or store bought leftover pita bread for making chips.

It all starts with gathering the ingredients. Slitting pita carefully in half if they are thick.

Brushing with oil and sprinkling some sesame seeds, pepper and dried herbs.

Cut each pita into equal triangles.

Brush oil on the pan and place the pita triangles.

    Bake , cool , done!

Now munch munch! I have served it with creamy cannellini bean dip ,again a good change from the classic hummus. Recipe at the end of the post!

Hope you enjoy this post on how to make crispy baked pita chips at home with homemade or leftover pita bread.

    Ingredients

    • 2 fluffy Pitas slit in half
    • 2 tablespoon oil
    • Extra oil for brushing the pan
    • ¼ teaspoon garlic salt*
    • 2 pinches smoked paprika*
    • 2 tablespoon sesame seeds
    • 2 teaspoon dried parsley or any other herb.

    Instructions

    • Pre heat oven at 375 deg F / 190 deg C
    • In a small bowl mix oil, garlic salt, smoked paprika .
    • Brush the pan with oil.
    • Cut the pita into equal triangles.
    • Brush the pita with prepared oil mix
    • Sprinkle sesame seeds and dried herbs.
    • Bake in a pre heated oven for 12-15 minutes
    • Take it out and let it cool down.
    • The pita chips get crispy once cooled .
    • Serve with dip of your choice.

    Notes

If using thin pitas , do not slit it in half.
You may use regular salt and skip garlic.
    Use herbs of your choice.
If you notice that pitas aren't crunchy enough then place in the oven for 2-3 more minutes because every oven is different.
You may do za'atar , black pepper or cayenne pepper instead of smoked paprika
These chips stay well in an air tight container for 2 days.

Want to make Pita bread at home from scratch – I follow this recipe .

The only change I make is keep it more whole wheat. So I have used 2 cups of whole wheat flour instead of ½ cup that is mentioned in the recipe link.

    Ingredients

    1 cup (8 ounces) water, 105–110°F

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for oiling the bowl

1 tablespoon granulated sugar ( I use raw sugar)

    2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast

    1 teaspoon salt

    2 cups whole wheat flour

½  cup all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting

    Follow instructions here- Link .

    Pin this for later.
